Veil of the Shadowed Seer
Wondrous Item (Cape), rare (requires attunement)
This ethereal cape appears to be woven from shadows themselves, constantly shifting and swirling as if caught in an unseen breeze. When worn, the fabric seems to absorb light, giving the wearer an aura of mystery. The inside of the cape is lined with intricate silver patterns that resemble the constellations, reminiscent of both stars and secrets not meant to be revealed.
While wearing the cape, you gain the ability to cast the augury spell once per day without expending a spell slot. In addition, you can use your action to enter a state of heightened perception, granting you advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Intelligence (Investigation) checks for the next hour. While in this state, you can also see into the Ethereal Plane up to 30 feet away, allowing you to perceive creatures and objects as an extension of your own senses.
Once per long rest, you may invoke the shadows to cloak yourself in an illusionary haze as a reaction. This grants you a +2 bonus to AC against a single attack, and if the attack misses, the attacker becomes blinded until the end of their next turn.
However, the cape comes with a caution. As you deepen your connection to the unseen, your mind may also be touched by whispers of the unknown. After using the heightened perception ability, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or gain a temporary madness effect (as outlined in the DMG) that lasts for 1d4 hours. This could represent visions of the future or fleeting glimpses of danger that may manifest in disorienting thoughts.
Adventurers who don this cape often find themselves drawn to mystery and secrets, navigating through both darkness and light with newfound clarity.
