Gyre of the Whispering Winds

Wondrous Item (Artifact), rare (requires attunement)

This mesmerizing artifact appears to be a small, silver orb, intricately engraved with swirling patterns that seem to shift and dance when viewed from different angles. When held, the orb emanates a cool breeze, and the faint sounds of voices can be heard within it, whispering secrets of the skies.

While attuned to this item, you gain the following benefits:

  • Windcaller: Once per long rest, you can use an action to unleash a gust of wind in a 60-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that line must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be pushed back 20 feet and knocked prone. Creatures that succeed on the saving throw are not knocked prone but are still pushed back 10 feet.

  • Whispers of the Air: You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks made to detect hidden creatures or objects within 30 feet of you as the whispers help you to attune to the subtle sounds of your surroundings. Additionally, you can cast the Speak with Animals spell at will, as the winds carry the voices of creatures to you.

  • Breezy Escape: You can use your reaction to grant yourself or a creature within 30 feet advantage on a saving throw against being grappled or restrained. In addition, if you or a creature within this range is in danger of taking damage, you can choose to negate that damage by teleporting them 10 feet in a direction of your choice, causing them to emerge surrounded by swirling winds. This ability can be used once per short or long rest.

  • Environmental Adaptation: While carrying the orb, you can ignore the effects of difficult terrain caused by natural obstacles such as tall grass, underbrush, or similar vegetation. You seem to glide effortlessly across the landscape, moving with the grace of the wind itself.

The orb is not without its trials. Once per month, during the full moon, the whispers within it may beckon you to undertake a challenge. If you refuse, the orb will become a dormant artifact until the next full moon. If you accept, you may need to face a trial related to the element of air, such as aiding a trapped air elemental or navigating a treacherous storm. Succeeding in these trials strengthens your bond with the orb, granting additional benefits at the DM's discretion.
