Ethereal Weaver’s Tapestry

Wondrous Item (tapestry), rare (requires attunement)

This remarkable tapestry is woven from threads that shimmer with a myriad of colors, each hue flickering and shifting as if alive. Measuring 6 feet by 4 feet, it appears to depict surreal landscapes and ethereal beings, seemingly caught between two realms.

When hung in a location, the tapestry creates a subtle aura that enhances the imaginative capabilities of those nearby. Each creature within 30 feet of the tapestry gains advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks and saving throws against being charmed. Additionally, any creature that spends an hour in the tapestry's vicinity can choose to enhance their abilities temporarily.

Once per long rest, you can invoke the tapestry’s powers to weave a path to another realm. You may cast the Dimension Door spell without expending a spell slot. When doing so, the area surrounding the tapestry momentarily reveals glimpses of the destination, making it easier for your team to visualize where they wish to go. If you choose to take another creature with you, that creature can instead choose to teleport you both to the location of a friendly character aware of the tapestry’s magic within 1 mile.

As your connection with the tapestry deepens, you gain the ability to activate the threads’ defensive measures. Once per long rest, you can use your reaction to create an ethereal shield, granting you a +2 bonus to AC until the start of your next turn. This shield flickers with the same luminous colors of the tapestry, warding off attacks with an otherworldly presence.

However, the tapestry demands a form of balance. Each time you use one of its magical abilities, roll a d6. On a roll of 1, the tapestry momentarily unravels, projecting an illusion of your darkest fears within a 20-foot radius for 1 minute, causing those who fail a Wisdom saving throw to be frightened until they can escape the area. The tapestry sews itself back together after each use, but the act serves as a reminder of the ever-present dance between creation and destruction.
