Echoing Prism of Forgotten Whispers

Wondrous Item (Artifact), rare (requires attunement)

This beautifully crafted prism is an iridescent gem encased in a delicate, silver lattice that seems to twist and swirl as you hold it. When light strikes its surface, it refracts colors and creates shimmering patterns that dance across nearby surfaces, whispering soft echoes of conversations long forgotten.

While attuned to this prism, you gain the ability to tap into the memories held within by activating it as a bonus action. You can recall a brief snippet of information, gaining advantage on a History or Arcana check related to a topic or place you have somehow connected with in the past, based on your DM's discretion. The prism retains these echoes, allowing you to unearth the knowledge of a forgotten age.

In addition, you may use the prism to cast the spell Clairvoyance once per long rest without expending a spell slot. If you choose to concentrate on this spell, you can overhear conversations or discern vital information but are unable to interact with the target or influence the events unfolding.

However, the power of the prism comes with a cost. After using the Clairvoyance ability, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or become overwhelmed by the rushing memories, causing you to be incapacitated until the end of your next turn. Each time you fail the saving throw, the DC increases by 2, until you complete a long rest.

Additionally, the prism can hold onto echoes of significant moments. Once per day, when you or an ally within 30 feet makes a mistake resulting in a failure (such as missing an attack or failing a saving throw), you can choose to expend the prism’s power to grant a second chance. The creature rerolls the check or roll and must take the new result. This ability can be used three times before requiring a long rest to recharge.

The toy of the ancients is a gate to lost knowledge but should be wielded cautiously, as the whispers of the past might bring not just knowledge, but also burdens best left forgotten.
