Cloak of Eclipsing Shadows
Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)
This flowing cloak appears to be woven from the fabric of shadows, shifting and swirling as if alive. When donned, it wraps the wearer in an aura of darkness that blends seamlessly with their surroundings, making them harder to detect. The cloak is adorned with silver thread that glimmers faintly in the light, resembling a starry sky during a moonless night.
While wearing this cloak, the wearer gains the following benefits:
-
Shadowed Step: The wearer can use a bonus action to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space they can see that is in dim light or darkness. After using this feature, the wearer can't use it again until they finish a short or long rest.
-
Veil of Night: Once per long rest, the wearer can activate the cloak to cast the spell Darkness without using a spell slot. The darkness created by this ability does not dispel light created by spells of 3rd level or lower.
-
Ghostly Presence: The wearer has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in dim light or darkness. Additionally, they can attempt to hide even when only lightly obscured.
-
Shadowy Escape: If an enemy attempts to hit the wearer with an attack while they are in dim light or darkness, the wearer can use their reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. This ability can be used once per short or long rest.
The cloak has an ephemeral quality, and when exposed to direct sunlight or bright light, the shimmering patterns become erratic, causing the wearer to appear slightly disoriented. This effect gives the wearer disadvantage on saving throws made against being blinded while in such light.
This unique item is coveted by spies, rogues, and those who strive for stealth and subtlety in their endeavors. However, it requires the user to understand the delicate balance between light and dark, demanding cunning and skill from its bearer.
