This delicate journal appears to be a mix of intricate leather and aged parchment, emanating an aura of secrets waiting to be uncovered. When a creature writes in the journal, their thoughts are transcribed not just into words but as echoes that carry faint whispers, revealing the hidden truths of the past, present, and possible futures.
Once attuned, the user can write a question or request in the journal. The whispers manifest as ephemeral, ghostly figures that provide cryptic guidance or warnings related to the query. The player must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw to interpret the information correctly; failure sends them on a wild interpretation, leading to a misguided course of action.
The journal can only offer insights three times per long rest. Additionally, each time it is used, there is a 20% chance that the user hears an echo of someone’s unfulfilled desire, creating a moment of distraction. If the player fails a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw during this moment, they suffer disadvantage on their next attack or ability check, as the bated whispers cloud their mind.
Once used successfully, the journal resets its ability to guide after a long rest. Moreover, those who carry the journal can speak one additional language of their choice, as the whispers also convey glimmers of lost dialects and forgotten tongues.
The journal vanishes if the wielder commits an act of betrayal or deception while relying on its guidance, leaving behind a single sheet that simply states, "Whispers fall silent."
