Chronicle of the Forgotten Realms

Wondrous Item (Artifact), rare (requires attunement)

This ancient tome is bound in dark leather, embossed with unfamiliar script and intricate silver patterns. Its pages are made of a peculiar material that feels cool to the touch, almost as if they are infused with a hint of otherworldly magic. When opened, the tome emits a soft, ambient glow that illuminates the surrounding area with a shimmering light.

The moment you attune to this item, it reveals itself to be a repository of lost knowledge from various realms, granting you insights into the past and uncanny powers over both history and fate.

Features:

  • Memory Recall: Once per day, you can use an action to flip through the pages of the tome, drawing forth a forgotten memory from a creature or object you can see. This ability allows you to ask the DM one question about any event that occurred in the vicinity of that creature or object, up to a century ago. The DM provides an answer, which may be truthful or obscure, depending on the nature of the memory.

  • Chronomancer’s Insight: You may add a d4 to any Intelligence or Wisdom check you make, using the tome's wisdom to guide your thoughts and actions. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses after a long rest.

  • Temporal Barrier: As a reaction to taking damage, you can open the tome and project a shimmering field of energy that grants you resistance to the triggering damage until the start of your next turn. This ability can be used once per short or long rest.

  • Shared Knowledge: While you have this tome on your person, any friendly creature within 30 feet may add your Intelligence modifier to their Intelligence checks. This reflects the shared wisdom of history flowing through your group, creating a bond of knowledge.

Curse:

However, wielding such vast knowledge comes with a price. Each time you use the Memory Recall feature, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or begin to forget your personal memories. Roll a d4; subtract that number from your Intelligence score temporarily (minimum 1) until you complete a long rest.

The item’s allure is tempting, beckoning you to explore the depths of forgotten tales while carefully guarding your own recollections. Those who master its powers may change the course of history, but at what cost?
