Aegis of the Stormwalker

Wondrous Item (Shield), rare (requires attunement)

Forged in the heart of a tempest and imbued with the essence of thunderous skies, this shield grants its wielder the power to command the winds and rains. Crafted from a strange alloy that seems to shimmer like storm clouds, it is embossed with swirling patterns reminiscent of lightning strikes.

While you are holding the shield, you gain a +2 bonus to AC. In addition, you can use your reaction to absorb elemental damage. When you take damage from an attack that deals lightning or thunder damage, you can reduce the damage by up to 5d6. When you do so, a bolt of lightning arcs from the shield, striking a creature of your choice within 30 feet of you, dealing 3d6 lightning damage. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they are also pushed 10 feet away from you.

Once per long rest, you can unleash a tempest by slamming the shield into the ground. When activated, a 20-foot radius sphere centered on you becomes difficult terrain for 1 minute, filled with gusting winds and torrential rain. All creatures within the area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or become blinded and deafened until the start of your next turn. Creatures that succeed take half as much damage from the effects and are not blinded or deafened.

Additionally, you may once per day call a storm to your aid. This ability allows you to cast the Call Lightning spell at 4th level without expending a spell slot. The storm conjured lasts for a duration of 1 minute, and you can manipulate its strikes to your advantage, allowing you to target a new area each turn.

The shield resonates with your intentions, but it demands respect; if you misuse its power, the winds may turn against you, causing you to be pushed back and take thunder damage equal to the damage you dealt.
